10 Top Benefits To Exercise

#10: Improves your mood

I joined a Karate class, not really to learn self defense, but more to have a place to go after work to blow off some steam before going home. Exercise lets your brain release chemicals that help you feel happier. It can even prevent or manage depression. (Not to mention, this exercise benefit is thinking your boss is the punching bag. Don't believe me, go ahead and try it!)

#9: Improves Confidence and self esteem

The hardest part of exercise - getting started. After a good workout you feel confident enough to take on the world. As well as build self esteem when you notice the physical appearance changes taking place in you.

#8: Reduces health problems and diseases

Another workout benefit is that it boosts high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or "good," cholesterol and decreases unhealthy triglycerides. This decreases your risk of cardiovascular diseases. It can also prevent type 2 diabetes, arthritis and certain types of cancer.

#7: Improves your sleep

Regular exercise can help you fall asleep faster and give you a deeper sleep. Just don't exercise right before bed!

#6: Helps you lose weight

Most people think the major benefit to exercise programs is that it helps you lose weight. Well, the only proven way to lose weight is exercise (burning calories) and a low caloric diet. ... and when you look better, you feel better!

#5 Boosts Energy

Exercise... deep breath...exercise... When your heart and lungs work more efficiently, you have more energy to go about your daily chores

#4 Builds friendships

Who said exercise had to be boring? Take up a new sport or dance class. Who knows, you may make a few new friends or even?? (see #1)

#3 Learn about new hobbies or activities

Hiking, jogging, my favorite low impact exercise - swimming, are just a few new activities you can participate in. You may not run a marathon, but then again..?

#2 Reduces or reverses muscle loss

Add 5 pound dumbbells to your workout. Including weights in your workout will stop the muscle loss we have as we age. We lose 5 lbs of muscle from our bodies every ten years. Why not reverse that trend now?

#1 Positive effect on your sex life

According to the Mayo Clinic, regular physical activity can lead to enhanced arousal for women. And men who exercise regularly are less likely to have problems with erectile dysfunction than are men who don't exercise. And whose to argue with the Mayo Clinic?

Need a Few More Guidelines?

The federal government's Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity a week for basic health benefits

For greater benefits, adults should aim for 300 minutes of moderate activity or 150 minutes of vigorous activity a week, according to the guidelines.

Moderate activity includes brisk walking, water aerobics, ballroom dancing, doubles tennis or biking on level ground

Vigorous activity includes jogging, running, aerobic dancing, swimming laps, singles tennis and cycling faster than 10 miles an hour.
